"it completely
changed me"

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

This album is very special to me. My Dad showed it to me when I was really young and didn’t appreciate music that much. We went on a long drive to listen to it all and it completely changed me. This gorgeous piece of music changed how I looked at the world around me and made me obsessed with music. It really sparked my passion and I’m forever grateful to it.

Childish Gambino - Awaken, My Love

When I had first started exploring music for myself Childish Gambino was one of the first I found that I really understood. His music is complex and emotional. This album in particular connected to me as soon as it came out. Nothing sounds the same, it’s all going in different directions, but all in the same theme and it connects so well on such a deep level.

Noname - Telefone

Noname is a poet. I could cry to any of the songs on this album. I found it when I was going through one of my toughest times in high school and her words helped me escape my surroundings. The way she controls a flow and makes you think and look inward is outstanding and I will always follow her career.

"I could cry to any
of the songs
on this album"

Ravyn Lenae - Moon Shoes EP

This is an EP and not necessarily an album, but it has as much emotional weight to me as an album. Ravyn Lenae tells stories of feeling outcast in this EP and finding acceptance when it feels impossible, as a black kid in Eugene, Oregon that felt like my story too. She felt like my friend in this EP and it helped me so much.

"It takes me back
home"

Johnny Cash - At Folsom Prison

I can’t tell if this is my grandfather's favorite album or not but he always played it when I was growing up. It takes me back home even now that I am far away. When I was learning guitar, Cash’s songs were some of the first I learned and it made me fall deeper in love with playing guitar because I could play songs I loved as a kid.

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

This album is a crazy journey and definitely defines my guitar playing style as a musician now. The entire album is full of amazing musicianship and good energy. You can tell there is love and passion in this record and it inspires me to dive deep into my work just like they did.

Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground & Nico

When I heard this record for the first time I was hypnotized. I must have played the whole thing front to back twelve times that day. I never thought music could be that creative and it makes me push my creativity as far as it can go.

Blur - The Great Escape

Blur are one of my favorite bands. The music they have made puts me in awe. It is full of energy and a huge variety of complex emotions. The song writing feels like such a group effort there’s a million things going and yet it’s so clear. Blur has done so much to reconnect and reinvigorate my passion for music.
